The award-winning Presto 30 sailboat, designed by Rodger Martin of Martin Design, will now be marketed and sold by Solar Wind Boats LLC of Mamaroneck, New York and built by collaboration between Ryder Boats, Bucksport, Maine and Robert E. Derecktor of NY. Ryder will make the composite parts of the Presto, while Derecktor will perform the finish work and install the systems.
Eight Presto30s have been built in Bucksport, and they do get around. Three sail Penobscot Bay in Maine; one sails near Cape Cod, Massachusetts; two sail off Newport, Rhode Island; one sails on the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia; and one on Georgian Bay, Canada. The Virginia boat and one of the Rhode Island Boats visit Florida in the winter. The Presto30’s designer, Rodger Martin, sails his boat to the Bahamas each winter. One Presto30 was trailered out to the West Coast and back last winter, sailing off California, Oregon, Washington State, and Vancouver, Canada.
Richard Ryder, president of Ryder Boats says, “We are very proud of the beautiful and versatile Prestos and very grateful to the customers who have invested in this traditional design realized with modern materials. Our customers say that these boats are always ready to go; they use this boat more than any other they have owned. Whether a Presto is gliding quietly into Castine harbor with the twin sails wing on wing or slashing through a November gale off Rockland, sailors take notice. We think that with Solar Wind Boats’ marketing experience and with Derecktor’s highly skilled finishing crew, Presto 30’s, and the newly designed Presto 42, will soon be sailing in waters all over the world. “
SolarWind partner John Koenig commented “The Presto 30 is a remarkable boat. She’s fast, versatile, fun to sail, and refreshingly simple. In a day and age when life – and boats – have become so complicated and demanding, Presto lets you get back to why you started sailing in the first place : for the sheer joy of it. The team of Ryder and Derecktor produces a truly American boat to a very high standard. Anyone who loves sailing and sailboats will be impressed.”
